My Future My Life

The "My Future My Life" project, supported by CORE initiatives and USAID/MOCAD, was designed to address HIV/AIDS prevention among youth in vulnerable communities. Implemented by HORARD, the project aimed to promote preventive behaviors such as abstinence before marriage and sexual faithfulness within committed relationships. By focusing on youth, the initiative sought to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS through education, awareness, and fostering healthier lifestyle choices. Key to the project’s success was the collaboration with other NGOs in the region, which strengthened the network of support for promoting these behaviors.

The project focused on establishing community-based organizations (CBOs) at fish landing sites in multiple districts across Uganda, targeting high-risk areas where HIV/AIDS was prevalent. In the district of Amolatar, CBOs were set up at landing sites such as Namasale, Bangladesh, Kayago, Nalubwoyo, and Muntu. In Apac, similar interventions were made in Chawente, Kayeyi, Kitaraganya, and Ogwil. These CBOs acted as hubs for education, providing information on preventive behaviors and offering a platform for community engagement on HIV/AIDS-related issues.

In addition to Amolatar and Apac, the project extended its reach to other regions, including Nakasongola and Lira. In Nakasongola, interventions were focused on the landing sites of Kikoiro and Lwampanga, while in Lira, the project reached former Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps that had become large settlements. These communities, often isolated and underserved, were given access to resources and support systems through the establishment of CBOs, contributing to the broader fight against HIV/AIDS by empowering individuals to make informed choices about their sexual health.
